Creating a Web Page with Microsoft Word

 

·         Start a new Word document

Before you do anything, save your document as a web page

·         Open the File Menu

·         Click Save As

·         Save your document as an html file
html means web page

Save as html

Remember where you save

Name your page

 

Web designers use tables to keep things in their place on web pages

·         Use the Table Icon or the Table Menu to insert a new table

·         Select 2 rows and 3 columns

Table Icon

 

·         RIGHT CLICK inside your table

·         Select AutoFit

·         Select AutoFit to Window
This will stretch your table to fit the entire web page

 

·         Click in the Top Left cell of your table

·         Type your name and a brief description of your page

·         Format the text color and size

 


 

We are now going to change the background color of the top left cell

 

First we have to Select the cell

·         Place the cursor in the top left cell

·         Click the Table Menu

·         Click Select

·         Click cell

 

·         Make sure the cell is selected as described above

·         Right Click inside the cell and select borders and Shading

 

 

Changing the color of the Cell

 

·         Make sure the Make sure the cell is selected as described above

·         Right Click inside the cell and select Borders and Shading

·         Click the Shading Tab

·         Make sure the Apply to box says Cell

·         Pick a background color for your cell and click OK

 

You can use this method to change the color of any cell

To change the color of the entire table  background,  select Table in the Apply To Box

Inserting a graphic

 

·         Click inside the Top Right Cell

·         Click the Insert Menu

·         Click Picture

·         From File or Clip Art
Clip Art must be installed in your computer

 

 

 


 

 

·         Find the picture you want to use and click Insert

 

 

Resizing and moving your graphic

 

·         Click your picture

·         Grab one of the buttons on the corners and drag to resize

·         Center your graphic using the icons

You can change the background color of the cells using the method described above

 

You can click your graphic and use the Borders and Shading Menu to add a border to your graphic

 

 

 

Inserting an Email Hyperlink

 

·         Click in the middle left cell

·         Type “Click here to send me an email”

·         Select (highlight) your text

·         Click the hyperlink button

·         Click Email Address

·         Type your email address in the box

·         Click OK

Notice the format for an email address

Inserting a hyperlink to a web page

 

·         Click in the middle right cell

·         Type “Click here to go to “EDT608 Web Page”

·         Click the Hyper Link Icon

·         Click Existing File or Web Page

·         Type the Internet Address (URL) in the Web Page Name box

 

You now have a hyperlink to a web page

 

Make sure you save your work as your proceed

 

 

Your web page should look something like the page on the right

·         Save your work

·         From the File Menu, click Web Page Preview
This will allow you to see your web page as it will look on the Web

 

To remove borders from your page

·         Place cursor in table

·         From the Table Menu Select Table

·         From the Format menu select Borders and Shading

·         Click No Borders

 

Use the MS Office skills you have learned in this course to improve the appearance of your web page.

Feel free to experiment with colors, fonts, borders, shading, graphics, etc.
