Class Requirements:

  • Writing requirement
    • Nightly review of assigned chapters in textStudents will complete the nightly, hands on,  assignments designed to develop their skills in the use of multimedia devices.
  •  Students must demonstrate their skill in using the following devices:
    • digital camera
    • scanner
    • video camera, video dubbing and editing
    • audio devices, audio dubbing
    • video computer devices
    • audio computer devices
    • graphic editing software such as PictureIt and Smart Draw
    • Microsoft Photo Story
    • Microsoft Movie Maker 3
  • Students will complete nightly assignments designed to enhance their skills in the use of Microsoft PowerPoint, and other software packages covered in the class such as FrontPage.
  • Students will design a multimedia computer lab, describing in detail each component of the lab.
  • Students will create a multimedia project that teaches one of the California Standards.. . The projects can not be designed to teach computers or technology but must focus on everyday academic subjects such as reading, spelling, math, science or social science. A story board will be used to design the project.
  • Students will learn to create a simple web page using Microsoft FrontPage
  • There will be a final exam. (to be determined)
  • Assignments will be assembled into a portfolio that will be submitted at the end of the class.

Grading

  • Points will be given for each of the nightly project assignments
  • Points will be given for the text chapter assignment
  • Points will be given their skill in using multimedia devices
  • The multimedia lab design will serve as the mid-term exam and will count for approximately 25% of the grade
  • Final Project is approximately 25% of the final grade.
  • All work must be done to professional standards

  • Read/Study Ch4 in the text and prepare a one page reflection.
  • Multimedia Discussion
  • Designing a MM Lab
    In this lesson you will use the skills that you have learned to design a multimedia lab for a school. Your design should include the following parts.
    • Overall description of the school & students
    • List each hardware device included in the lab
      Scanners, printers, cameras, etc.
      Explain the reasons for including each device
    • Describe all of the software you intend to use in the lab 
    • Download and install the evaluation version of Smart Draw from the Smart Draw web site. 
      Use this software to draw a schematic of the multimedia lab
    • You should have a text document describing the items above and a drawing of the lab.

    • Go to the Microsoft web site (www.microsoft.com)
    • Download and install the free MSN Messenger 7.0 program
    • If you have a Hotmail account you can use it for your log in
    • Follow the instructions on the screen
    • Do not click any boxes that ask what you are interested in. You may get junk mail in the topic.
    • Give yourself a screen name and follow all of the directions.
    • Add me to your Contacts List
    • My screen name is frankschneemann
    • Once I am added to your favorites list you will be able to chat with me in real time.
    • Send me an instant message so we can chat.
    • Prepare a list of possible educational uses for Microsoft Instant Messenger.
  • If you have trouble with the assignment, wait till you return and I will help you.with the set-up

Final Project 

Overview

  • Students will create a multimedia project that teaches one of the California Content Standards. A link to the Standards can be found on the www.edtechnology.com page.
  • Decide what you want to teach and then develop a project that uses multimedia to teach it.
  • Focus on a specific Standard and discuss your project with Mr. Schneemann for approval before you begin.
  • You may use one or more multimedia hardware or software components 
  • Your project should promote "high order thinking skills" in the students and should conform to the "Cognitive" and or "Behavioral" educational models.
  • An ASSURE lesson plan should accompany the project
     

Step by Step Instructions

  • Decide which standard you want to teach.
  • Decide which Multi-Media tools you want to use
  • Discuss your project with Mr. Schneemann
  • Write your ASSURE lesson plan
  • Develop your interactive multi media project 
  • Turn in a hard copy and soft copy of your project
Course requirements and grading

25% of grade from nightly projects
25% of grade from text book writing project
25% of grade from objective exam
25% of grade from final project

  80% B
  70% C
  60% D
     

If you have less than 80% you need to consult with the instructor
